Deeper again
We were recently asked if the AquaCannon can be modified to increase 02 levels down to 60-70ft, the answer is yes with reservations, the problem is if we inject atmospheric air (+-80% nitrogen) below 2 atmospheres, 66-68ft- the nitrogen will go into solution-nitrogen bubbles in the water- not good for the fish!!
We can always use pure 02, and yes, I can hear the bean counters all over the world turning blue, sputtering and shaking their heads over the outrageous cost….
We considered using a 02 generator, the cost of the machine was shocking and in general not justified for what we do, we use the cheapest source of 02 available-the air we all breathe. So far we have managed to get more pure 02 out of atmo-air and into the water than any other system I have ever come across, several people claim very high levels of transfer, to them I say-take you unit out of the depleted, start at zero 02 test tank and put in the real world, the we will see how well your story holds up.
The biggest obstacle to driving the jet of air and water is basic physics, the micro bubbles in the water stream want to rise to the surface, they resist every inch of the way down, at a certain point they simply overcome the ever diminishing force of the Cannons water jet and rise up to the surface. (This why we get great improvement’s at around 30 ft) The result is you still get a jet of improved water at 50-60ft (The cannon does this now) but it is not enough to give the huge increase at this depth demanded by a mega ton fish farm.
Solution; combined with the recent hp increase and improvement’s on the nozzle combined with an extended Cannon support ladder we are able to offer an improvement down to 45ft
Jellyfish
It is becoming very apparent that Jelly fish of all types are a major problem worldwide. Taking over vast areas of previously good fishing grounds, coming into beach areas where they were all but unknown and seriously injuring swimmers.
There are several clear reasons why this is happening- regardless of the reasons, the fact is the creatures are seriously impacting Ocean food harvesting worldwide. What can the AquaCannon system do to help out? We can revive dead zones where they seem to like breeding and hanging out and we can give them a real hard time around fish farms.
Walkway sites; if the units are all placed on the same side of the site then there will be a substantial push coming out the opposite side, this will cause a “push away effect” on anything floating along outside the cage and also anything floating around in the cage.
Anything getting drawn in through the Cannon and injected into the site will go through the prop…. Jelly fish and sea lice puree anyone??
Deeper
The AquaCannon will greatly improve 02 levels down to 9-10 meters, it will help deeper but nowhere near what it will do at 9-10, this is enough to save a cage that holds 50,000 fish in a bad 02 situation, but as it was VERY clearly explained to me by a now retired very well respected industry professional—2-3meters more and both the fish and the fish farm owners would breathe easier.
With these words in mind, (the guy who spoke them is not the type of man who takes being taken lightly-lightly), I have being actively working on a different design of nozzle that will cause the oxygenated flow to go deeper without causing the amount of 02 in the water stream to lessen or to cause an increase in fuel consumption. OK fine, how do you get more push without having to increase the power?
There has to be a compromise somewhere, because has we all know you cannot get something for nothing….but you can get close.
Here’s what we came up with; longer smaller nozzle with a modified mixing chamber-you wind up with a little less water flow but you get more speed/penetration and are able to do it at lower RPM –less fuel.
In other words the unit will now do what it always did with less fuel consumed, if the situation demands deeper penetration then you are not consuming more fuel to get it. The only difference is less overall water being pushed, so it takes 15-20 minutes instead of 10 to get the treatment area stabilized. No big deal, if the situation is time critical simply run the unit full blast at start-up.
Smart move
Finally!! The website is up and running, after 12 years of working in the industrial fish farm aeration game-from electric units that salt air loves to eat to the World’s first ocean going machine, we now have a well-built site that explains the AquaCannon to anyone who needs to know. Thanks to Rick Lawrence and his team of pros. (Especially Rick’s patience…!)
